What is the deal with Dragon Skin body armor??

Is it really effective or not. Is it true what the Army claims. After seeing the ABC News special and the Discovery Channel hour long special, I do not know what to believe.

What is the deal with Dragon Skin body armor??
It's good armour but way too expensive.

No armour is perfect, what we have is pretty damned good.
Reply:the ONLY problem with Dragonskin Body Armor is that its not made by the "right" people. It is the top of the line, second to none but its not made by the friends of Republic(ans).
Reply:The answer given is that there are angles at which a bullet could strike the armor and slip in between the plates. I am of the opinion (mine only) that the Dragon Skin makers did not pay a big enough kickback to the evaluators, so they came up with an evaluation test no armor could pass. Also, it is not made by a politically correct manufacturer and it is "too expensive"....

I will refer you to Wikipedia which has an extensive article about it and the history of the testing and evaluation. Note how the Army after rejecting Dragon Skin armor hold the testing procedures and results as "classified".
Reply:I believe its good armour but politics gets in the way of things. Sometimes no matter how good things are if it doesn't get the right press or back up it gets but on the shelf or worse put down before its even been used. In the long term any armour is better than none.
Reply:I saw tests done on it, it survived a full clip of, 5.56, 7.62, and shots from a .50 call MG at less than 30 yards. As well as a grenade detonation right under it- non penetrated.

And it is light..very light, the show "Future weapons" showed all sorts of things being done to it, it is extremely impressive.
