Why the Military does not deployed Dragon skin body armor?

The army said it to expansive which is BS since they have the money for other programs. Protect the People with the Best.

proud to be in the USA baby!!!!

Past the word

21 Rounds 7.62x39mm FMJ military ball ammo fired at 20 feet from AK-47/AKM-variant rifle, and 120 rounds 9mm FMJ military ball ammo fired at 10 feet from Heckler %26amp; Koch MP5 submachine gun. and it did not past thur the body armor!!!!!!

There only a few folks waring it but I feel the troop in the field not just SP folks should have this type of protection

Why the Military does not deployed Dragon skin body armor?
Sometimes it takes this type of media coverage to make the military step up to the plate, now don't get me wrong i despise the the media in general because of the biased coverage in Afghanistan and Iraq......... but in this case they may be able to stir up some support for for congress to get involved and get our boys the best that this country has to offer......its the least that can be done.

Reply:I thought it was in development. But that looked pretty sweet on Futureweapons last night. Our soliders need that. I think it took a grenade to the chest. An no damage. Also took like fifty shots. Nothing went through. Sweet. But yeah. I'll give extra tax dollars for this. I heard it had pretty good movement when worn. But that was word of mouth.
Reply:Because by the time the military makes a move, they will have deathray laser guns... Don't you know anything about the military?
Reply:a better question is why the mil. prevents the guys who already have it from using it. I think it's called arrogance.
Reply:There is allot more to getting a contract with the government than what I am sure you are not aware of. Can this company produce what is asked of them. Will they back up any defects if found and do automatic replacement. Can they produce 20000 pieces a month as required. Much more to it than stating some stats!
Reply:The maker of Dragon Skin body armor has not been able to convince either his congressman or a member of the department of defense that they should be given the contract. There was an arms demo at Camp Pendleton last month, but no public mention of the Dragon Skin armor, which by no means indicates it was not present at the demonstration. However, until the people making the technology can convince the people buying the technology, that this is the best alternative, then nothing will happen.

I have only heard about the stopping power of this body armor, but nothing about the cost, the production capacity, and more importantly, the weight and care of this technology for everyday use. Can the men and women using it in live combat actually wear it without increasing fatigue and slowing movement in a manner that hinders their ability to fight or makes them a slower moving target?
Reply:Because the stuff did not meet the US Army specifications for personal body armor. For example - it is not compatible with the MOLLE-II system of attaching personal equipment.

Remember that what you are reading is promotional materials put out by the company that wants to sell the stuff.
Reply:They are not finished with the R%26amp;D... the dragon skin is at about the same developement point as the first scientific calculators... that sold for $300. The high volumn manufacturing methods don't even exist yet. Four years from now I will have my own Dragon Skin hanging in my bunker.... about $500 by then... and ALL military personel in combat zones will have them.
Reply:You missed the segment where the fragmentation grenade was used. Fragments didn't pass through the armor either. Pretty impressive. But the blunt force trauma that would be passed through your body would gel your insides. You would more than likely bleed to death internally. But over all I was impressed with it.
Reply:Because the manufactures of the current sapi plates Cerodyne has a lot of lobbyists on the pay role. So that's why Dragon Skin armor is not issued. Basically it all comes down to the largest company with th most money. very one has there price.

All this info comes from my bro who has a PHD in Ceramic engineering
