Why doesn't the army use Dragonskin armor?

it has been proven that dragon skin armor is much more effective than the U.S. Army endorsed Interceptor armor - yet they still use interceptor over dragon skin. why?

Why doesn't the army use Dragonskin armor?
They signed the contract for the interceptor before the dragonskin was through testing.

Now they have to fulfill their end of the contract AND they don't want to look like they did a piss-poor job in selecting the interceptor.

They need to get over their pride, realize it wasn't a mistake to get SOME body armor when it was available, and now switch to the better model armor - Dragonskin.
Reply:just wait they will.... they will.
Reply:simple answer, cost. They'll come up with every excuse they can as to why, but money is the bottem line. I'd love to have ds armor, but i don't see it happening anytime soon. In the military conracts generally go to the lost bidder, kinda f'd up but hey, we're on a budget, not much anyone can do about it.
Reply:Because it had total failure during several army tests. Until they work those problems out.. it's not up to army standards.
Reply:As of now it costs too much and the people who make it are not capable of producing it in large enough amount to supply the whole military with it.

As much as we'd like to think it isn't the case, there is a price on a soldier's life. If not they would all be using special ops gear.
Reply:it failed the tests, the Military rigorously tests everything. When it passes the tests they will spend a billion dollars for a couple of them.
Reply:they will later on seen a segment on military weaponary documentary. the interceptor is used now because it was available faster. dragon skin armor must be made by hand. more expensive. im sure its available for elite units.
Reply:One of the Army's test that was that they changed the temperature of the environment with the armor. I believe they took the temperature at 175 degrees and dropped it to 50 or less degrees and the armor began to fall apart. Thats why, but it's because Pinnacle was so excited to sell it they didnt focus on the short changes.
Reply:It failed the standards of the US Army. Would you want to use body armor that had the protective disks fall to the bottom of the vest?
Reply:Simple. It failed testing.

chevereeddie,

Elite units can use it if they want, but the government won't pay them thier SGLI should they be killed. Dragonskin is still unauthorized.
Reply:cuz we killed all the dragons and untill we perfect dragon-cloning we will have to wait. Troll-skin is a good alternative and it has self-healing qualities.
Reply:The government doesn't look at what's best, but rather what is cheapest. The Interceptor Body Armor (IBA) is the least expensive.
